Description

Working with the implementation science division under Dr. Richard Grant; whose research focuses on identifying and overcoming barriers to effective primary care in patients with complex diseases.

Accomplishments

  • Managed an ethnographic qualitative study to identify barriers for 300+ patients who struggle to meet their care goals within a chronic disease management program.

  • Used NVivo to code and analyze observational data for thematic analysis using the COM-B framework.

  • Conducted patient recruitment and surveys to investigate the use of a patient communication tool for de-prescription among older patients with diabetes.

  • Facilitated interviews with Southeast Asian patients on their diabetes management experience.

Description

Worked on two separate projects with UCSF: (1) EngageRx, (2) The Remember Now Project. EngageRx was an integrated EHR artificially intelligent medication decision aid. The Remember Now Project was conducted in collaboration with Harvard School of Public Health to investigate daily living experiences of global communities during COVID-19.

Accomplishments

  • Interviewed physicians and created storyboard prototypes for the development of an AI prescription aid integrated into their electronic health record system (EPIC).

  • Recruited and interviewed participants from global communities for a photographic diary study capturing lifestyle changes during a global pandemic.

Kaiser Permaente | Health Engagement Dept.

Description

Kaiser Permanente's health engagement consulting department is an internal group with expertise in health communication and behavior change. We support over 3.8 million patients and 8,000 doctors in 22 Kaiser Permanente medical centers across Northern California.

Accomplishments

  • Conducted literature reviews and identified behavior change techniques for clinicians in 1:1 settings with patients and two-way texting for chronic disease care.

  • Created a regional-wide health outcomes survey of HEDIS measures for health education directors.

  • Conducted staff interviews, usability tests, card sorting, and iterative prototyping to redesign a web-based health education portal used by clinicians in 50+ Northern Californian sites.

  • Led a workshop on the applications of behavior change theory on health education initiatives.

Description

Dr. Allison Harvey's clinical psychology lab aims to develop more effective and efficient treatments for psychiatric and psychological health problems by (a) applying a multi-systems and mechanisms-focused framework in which basic science findings on cognitive, affective, biological, behavioral and developmental contributors are used as sources for deriving novel interventions and (b) intervention research is used to develop hypotheses about and/or confirm mechanisms.

Accomplishments

  • Coauthored a systematic review of 15,500+ studies for a meta-analysis on improving adaptations to behavioral therapy for adults with mental illness.

  • Coded and identified best practices for cognitive behavior techniques (CBT) in conversations between parents and teens for improved sleep outcomes.

  • Redesigned the clinic’s website interface to enhance branding and patient recruitment efforts.

Description

With researchers and professionals from the top-ranked public university in the nation, HRA provides consulting services in health communication, research, and policy. HRA sits within the School of Public Health at University of California, Berkeley. I worked directly with Dr. Winston Tseng, who is a principal research working on health initiatives for underserved communities.

Accomplishments

  • Analyzed survey data using Excel to evaluate the mental health and health education knowledge of 200+ Hmong older adults enrolled in a state-funded lifestyle support program.

  • Used Dedoose to code interview and focus group transcripts for thematic analysis.

  • Created a presentation of research findings for California’s Department of Public Health (CDPH).

Micro Lab at Haas School of Business

Description

Dr. Dana Carney's Micro Lab sits primarily under the Social Psychology department of UC Berkeley's Haas School of Business. Research aims investigate nonverbal display of power and status. They are particularly interested in others' perceptions of our power and status depending on how we behave nonverbally. 

Accomplishments

  • Conducted a literature review on the consequences of status and newcomer behavior in social groups.

  • Created surveys using Qualtrics to examine the micro-behaviors of lying within team settings.

  • Facilitated group research sessions involving 100+ young adult participants.
